Our Mission
Inclusive Dance Academy is committed to providing people of all ages, abilities, and disabilities with the opportunity to experience dance, movement to music and performance in a positive, nurturing, non-judgmental and supportive environment. At IDA students will grow in confidence and self-love, while
increasing coordination, balance, agility, flexibility, and musicality. Most importantly having lots of FUN, making friends and being a part of our village.
Dance has been scientifically proven to reduce stress, improve brain function and cognition, regulate and boost moods. These benefits have the potential to improve the quality of life for all individuals, especially those living with a disability. We believe that these transformative powers should be accessible to everyone, regardless of age, ability, experience, or appearance. That is why, at Inclusive Dance Academy, anyone and everyone is a dancer. We pride ourselves on educating our students to be the best they can be and providing skills they can utilise in all aspects of their lives.
Our Story
Being in the dance industry for 28 years, trained in most genres and teaching for over 16 years, I understand the many physical, mental, and emotional health benefits dance, music and movement brings to your life. Growing up living with an extended family member (I count her as my sister, regardless of blood) with special needs, I saw firsthand the positive changes and confidence that dance brought into her world. I want to provide those opportunities to everyone, especially those living with disabilities. Completing my Human Service & Social work degree at Griffith University provided me with further knowledge and skills in best practice when working with clients with mental health issues and disabilities. Our happiness is our own responsibility, but it helps doing something that you love that is proven to boost your mood and release
endorphins, be surrounded by people who are positive and who love and support you to be confident and your complete authentic self.
In 2021 I became the mum of my little queen, Presley. After giving birth I wanted to attend dance classes with her, unfortunately there was nothing available. Thatβs when Mums & Bubs Dance Fitness Classes were created. It is so important for mums to be able to receive the many health benefits from dance without needing a babysitter, or having to pay for a creche while the kids usually cry the whole time, which means no mum guilt! I have seen classes help mums through PPD, help them create their village, grow in confidence, self-love and be surrounded by positivity, support and understanding. Building each other up and helping each other through the coolest hood there is... motherhood!
We pride ourselves on being different from the rest. We are strong advocates for body positivity, community over competition and no makeup or expensive costumes required.
